Join me at Camp Wedding at Camp Wandawega this fall!

Hey wedding industry professionals!  it's time to pack your best flannel shirt, throw on a pair of boots, and head to Camp Wandawega for Camp Wedding this fall! I'm so excited to announce that i'll be speaking and also doing professional headshots for attendees. it's 3 days of learning, collaborating, and networking deep and meaningful relationships at one of my all-time favorite venues, Camp Wandawega.  (ps- all the following photos were taken there... drool!)

seriously, have you been there? it's an old deserted boy-scout camp that was re-invigorated by a pair of uber talented Chicago Creatives the Andrzejewski family,  where you can stay in teepees, boy scout canvas tents, a treehouse (!!!) or boy-scout camp lodges. in between growing our businesses and getting down to the nitty gritty of the wedding industry, we'll be taking canoes out, swinging on giant rope swings into the lake, having campfire discussions, and basically feeling like the hippest campers around.

What to wear for your photography session

If there is any question I get more than any other it is "what should I wear for our session?"

the short answer is: 'wear what you feel good in',  but the long answer looks a little something like the video below.

Lexia Frank Photography is a family photographer in portland oregon.

the TLDR version is a little something like this:

  • have the clothing fit the location. going to the beach? wear beach-y type clothing, not formal wear. staying at home? wear a loose off the shoulder t-shirt and barefeet, not a cocktail dress. a downtown city session? dress up, but dont wear a whimsical bohemian dress and barefeet. The easiest way to remember this is: if you wouldnt normally wear that outfit to that location and it feels out of place in real life, it will feel out of place in photographs.
  • dont match, but do try to coordinate with similar-feeling styles
  • try to stay away from polo shirts, or t-shirts with graphics or logos on them.
  • stay away from small repeating patterns like gingham or tiny repeating polkadot patterns, as cameras have a difficult time with tiny repeating patterns and it can look psychedelic.
  • skirts and dresses give your hands something to do, (picking it up, swinging it around, etc) so it might be worth thinking about wearing one.
  • dark colors weigh you down, not make you look thinner.  light and airy colors will turn out beautifully on film- go for that!
  • wear your clothes around for a while before you attend your photoshoot.  make sure that you can easily move around in them, that you can raise your arms up or bend forward- essentially your clothes need to allow you to move and be normal people without having to constantly adjust them.  spoiler alert- we'll be moving around a lot.
  • iron, cut off tags and bring along a tide-stick in case you spill!
  • when in doubt, bring a few options to your shoot and let your photographer help you choose.
  • always communicate with your hired photographer about what he/she likes for her clients to wear so that your style meshes with their style for the best end result!
